Uptown Tenderloin
For years the Tenderloin was, as the tour books like the to quote, the neighborhood to skip in San Francisco. But, today the Tenderloin is going through a renaissance. New construction is sprinkled among new restaurants, bars with fancy drinks and little boutiques. Better yet, nomination papers were filed with the state Office of Historic Preservation to create the “Uptown Tenderloin Historic District" for the over 16 block area north of Market Street. This authentic historic name (originally names Uptown in the 1930s) for the area is on target for Summer 2008.
And as much as we are excited to be part of this commercial growth, we are also dedicated to the well being of some of the city's most vulnerable people with whom we share this neighborhood. The Hamilton Association has a special board committee dedicated to providing volunteer work and resources to many non-profit organizations in the Tenderloin. We have condo owners actively working with TNT (The New Tenderloin), North of Market Redevelopment Organization, Economic Growth Association and Friends of Boedecker Park.
